Provincial Sustainable Transport Programme

There is a desperate need to provide safe and affordable transport across South Africa’s Western Cape Province, particularly for marginalised communities. The Provincial Department of Transport and Public Works was seeking to develop a revised approach to improving access and mobility in these communities and appointed us to develop this strategy.
 
We developed a comprehensive strategy which responded to the primary constraints to progress in the sector. This included the development of an innovative, viable approach to public transport improvement which incorporated many of the insights gleaned from other public transport improvement initiatives in which we have been involved. The Department is now in the process of piloting the implementation of this innovative approach in a priority municipality and has plans to roll-out the programme to others.
