Project Description

Africa’s growth rate continues to be impressive. Urban, industrial and infrastructure development has the potential to deliver transformative benefits for the Continents citizens. However, these developments can – if badly managed – come at significant cost to the environmental and ecological systems on which the Continents growth depends, challenging the underlying basis for economic growth.

We helped AfDB and WWF understand the spatial implications of development for Africa’s ecological hotspots. The team facilitated a Continent wide scenario planning exercise, informed by robust evidence. This provided the client with a consolidated view on key African development scenarios and articulated the spatial implications for Africa’s ecology.

The team delivered a major eternally published report which was launched by AfDB President at the Bank’s Annual Meeting. Through our work, we helped AfDB & WWF develop a shared understanding of ecological risks, their economic impacts and provided fresh thinking on potential solutions.
